Meet Sarah!
I created The Solo Travel Mum Society because I believe every mum deserves to raise her kids in an empowering and adventurous environment.
When I became a mother at 24, I was shocked to see so many mothers abandoning their dreams and ambitions. But over time, I realized this wasn't the fault of the mothers themselves. Instead, it was a result of years of societal conditioning that pressured them into making this sacrifice.
Society subtly reinforces this narrative from a young age, conditioning women to believe that their ultimate role is to nurture others, often at the expense of their own aspirations. It’s in the stories we grow up with, the expectations we encounter at every stage, and the way motherhood is depicted as an all-encompassing role that leaves little room for personal fulfillment beyond raising children.
I couldn’t accept that motherhood had to be this way. I didn’t want to choose between being a present, loving mother and pursuing my own goals. It became clear to me that the system itself needed to change—policies, workplaces, cultural norms. We need to dismantle the expectation that women must choose between family and personal growth, and instead create environments where they can flourish in both roles.
It’s not easy, and I know firsthand the guilt and pressure that come with trying to balance everything. But I refuse to believe that we should have to choose. Every mother deserves the opportunity to pursue her dreams while being the best mother she can be. It's not about sacrifice; it's about redesigning the support structures around us to enable women to thrive, both as individuals and as mothers.
My journey of traveling the world solo with my daughter became a beacon of hope, granting permission for mothers everywhere to embrace their authenticity and rewrite the narrative of motherhood.
Now, it's your turn, babe. Welcome home.
